As I wrote about last month in our Sun Basket review, I’ve become intrigued with the current subscription food box trend. Mr B, Em, and I have been slowly trying a few of them out, and over the next few months, I’ll be posting reviews of the ones that we like and feel like we can recommend.
Today ‘s post is all about Treatsie artisan sweets. Treatsie is one of those simple things that make life a little brighter. It isn’t critical to your existence, but it will definitely bring a smile to your face.
Sent out once a month, Treatsie sweets comes with a little card that sports a seasonal greeting on one side and a detailed description of each product on the back.
Our box included Toffee Macademia Cookies and Chocolate Chip Cookies from Torn Ranch; Muscadine Grape Buds and Cherry Buds from Butterfields Candy; and an assortment of caramels from Avenue Sweets. Made with real butter, the Toffee Macademia Cookies were a melt-in-my-mouth standout, and my top pick. The only thing I wasn’t too keen on were the Cherry Buds, but that’s a personal thing. (Cherry-anything tastes like cold medicine to me!)
Bang for the buck? Treatsie boxes currently cost $19.95 a month, including shipping. According to the Treatsie website, each box includes up to $25 of gourmet sweets per month from three different vendors.
I did the math on our box, and based on full retail price at the individual vendor websites, I estimated the contents to total about $16.50. Obviously (if our box is typical) the price is slightly high for the amount of product you get; but remember that shipping is included, plus I do think that the surprise factor has value, so that all kind of evens things up for me. I love trying out new things, and the treats included in our box were all sweets I’d never seen before. Overall, I think the price is on the high side of reasonable.
Who’s it for? Personally, I think it’s a great treat to give yourself. I mean, think about it… every month, a little box full of something sweet arrives almost unexpectedly (because a month has gone by and you forget) and it makes your day. Then you set it on your desk, and every so often when the mood strikes, you reach in and grab a little something. I love that idea.
Also, college kids. Same reason, except every time they reach into that box, it reminds them that someone out there loves them, and thought enough to send them a little something sweet. I remember sitting in the winter gloom at my desk at school, writing long, tedious papers for English Lit and Advanced Existentialism (yes; that is a real thing). A little reminder that someone cared would have really brightened my day.

NOTE: I love to organize things, and I found that empty Treatsie boxes are the perfect size for filing all those business cards you have floating around your desk!
Just so you know, Mr B and I take pride in giving our honest opinion of products and services we have the opportunity to review; however, we always abide by Thumper’s Rule: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” In other words, you won’t see any negative reviews here; if we don’t like it, we don’t write about it.
