A recap of the Chevy Shop Social: Portland fundraiser for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
I almost didn’t write this post. I thought, I’ve already written two posts leading up to the event. And while it was definitely a ton of fun, now it’s over, and there’s so much coming up – no one will notice if I just move on.
However, it wasn’t that simple. Not only did I have a ton of pictures of the event to share, but I have a responsibility to something far more important. Plato said, “Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others.” I was indeed strengthened by my participation in this event, so if you are reading this and wondering if you should get involved in a similar event, let me nudge you over the line. Be present. Be involved, Be inspired to help.
End of PSA – on to the party.
Held in Portland’s living room – Pioneer Courthouse Square – our shindig kicked off under threat of thunderstorms. (Lucky for everyone, those threats never materialized and the weather was near perfect all evening.) Raffle baskets were set out on tables and accessorized with gleaming new Chevy’s parked all around the Square.
Select food carts were on hand for event attendees looking to grab a bite to eat. The Grilled Cheese Grill was a big hit with my girls.
There was also local beer, wine and spirits samples, music, and even a Chevy-sponsored photo booth.
Speaking of pictures: with fifteen bloggers in the same place, there are going to be pictures. A lot of them.
We took a ton of selfies, and then posed for some only slightly more formal Chevy event photos.
Getting my girls to stand for a picture proved to be a little more difficult: they are both hams at heart. (So is Mr. B’s mom – that’s her hand photo-bombing the picture below.)
At the end of the day, after the last basket was raffled off, Doernbecher was presented with a check for the event proceeds, which totaled more than $10,000. That’s a pretty awesome party favor, if you ask me.
