Yesterday was the best day!! I attended the Pacific Northwest Blogger Holiday Party in Portland at the Union/Pine and had so much fun!!! (Enough exclamation points for you?!? Well, let me tell you – you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!!!) First off, I loved the space!! Lots of room to move around and a really inviting atmosphere. There were at least fifty of us, and we all had ample opportunities to visit and network with other bloggers while we noshed away. Our dessert table (sponsored by Pinhole Press) showcased a host of locally made deliciousness, and the holiday bar (sponsored by 7th Chamber) kept the crowd happy with a plentiful supply of mimosa and Bloody Mary’s.
OK, now I’m going to tell you why I’m a little Exclamation Point crazy today!!! Guess What – Guess What – Guess What!?!?!?
I won the Big Door Prize!!!!!!
Yep. Little ol’ me! ! ! ! ! ! Courtesy of Dell and Microsoft Surface, I am the owner of a brand spanking new 64GB Dell XPS 10 tablet!! I am so excited!! I’ve only had it for just over 24 hours and already I can tell you that it is a pretty cool little machine (“dancing on the conference room table commercial” notwithstanding). I have to share this too: when I won – just before they called my name – I was standing with Tiffany & Andrew of Thyme of Taste (that’s them right above this paragraph, in the bottom left corner of the first collage) and saying, quote, “I never win anything.” So when I heard my name called, I just about lost my socks. So much for painting with a broad brush, but that is one “never” I gladly give up!
While it was awesome winning the Surface, the best part about this event was getting spend time with some really amazing, talented people. It is great to be a blogger in the PNW! At 50 years old (Yes – I said it. I own it. I earned it!), I’m the self-proclaimed grandma of the group – at least a third are young enough to be my kids, and the majority of others fall in degrees between, but they accept me without question and I love it!! Ours is a vibrant community of smart, creative people who are passionately working to bring the best our region has to offer to the rest of the world. It is a privilege to be counted among them! Let me introduce you to a just few:
I mentioned this pair earlier, but I just have to officially introduce you to Tiffany & Andrew [Collage #1 – bottom left] of Thyme of Taste – two of my new favorite foodies! Fun, easy-going and eager to bring it, their blog rocks with Portland food scene notes and delicious kitchen creations (like their recent recipe for Cranberry Bliss Bars, a delicious copycat of You-Know-Who, the coffee purveyor).
Holly & Kayla [Collage #1 – top left] of Moment’s Don’t Collect Dust are energetic, easy to talk with, and adorable! These two twenty-something friends are lifestyle bloggers who live and write from the perspective that possessions ultimately collect dust while experiences, moments, and memories do not. (Wise counsel.)
Finally, when Marilyn of Urban Bliss Life [Collage #2 – crafting in the upper right on the left] first greeted me at the party, I immediately felt welcome in her circle, like I was meeting an old friend. Marilyn’s warmth extends to her blog as well, where she shares creative DIY projects, offers lots of printable freebies, and writes about food, fashion, wine, restaurants, travel, and everything in between. (I’m kind of a fan.)
There are so many more great PNW bloggers – I’ll try to share more in upcoming posts. But it’s time for other things today: believe it or not, I’m working on a novel right now and trying to get 50,000 words written by the end of the month!
If you’d like to learn more about the bloggers in our area, be sure to stop in at PDX Bloggers and check their lists. (And if you are a PNW Blogger who attended the party, please comment with your favorites from the event!)
